DALTON, Mass. -- Grace Calvert scored five goals and Sydney Smith stopped 13 shots to lead the Wahconah girls lacrosse team to an 11-1 win over Assabet Valley on Monday in the first round of the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 tournament.

Wahconah opened the post-season with its fourth straight win after a stretch in which it went 3-6.

“It is good to get some consistency,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “Having Chloe [Accardi] back today helped. Definitely didn’t play her a whole lot or Claire [Naef] but it’s nice to have them back and have options.

“We’ll keep getting them healthy and see what we see.”

Accardi scored a goal for Wahconah, which got a hat trick and an assist from Emily Figiela.

Twelfth-seeded Assabet Valley (8-9) gave up 11 shots on goal in the first half while earning just a couple of tries against Smith.

Figiela got things started when she converted an assist from Jilly Cote in the first minute.

A few minutes later, Calvert set up Figiela for a goal in transition.

“It was nice to see us get a couple of transition chances because we haven’t been getting a lot of transition opportunities,” Budaj said.

Calvert scored the next two goals -- first cashing in the rebound of a shot by Figiela and then scooping a ground ball and scoring from the right wing to make it 4-0 just 10 minutes into the game.

Figiela and Calvert each scored again, and Autumn MacAdoo put one between the pipes before half-time.

Fifth-seeded Wahconah (13-7-1) advances to the sectional quarter-finals to face either No. 4 Nipmuc (12-6) or No. 13 Pope Francis (9-8), who meet on Tuesday in Upton.
