College Collage: Hoosac Grad Lesure Piling Up Goals at Southern Vermont

BENNINGTON, Vt. -- Southern Vermont College junior Emily Lesure is fourth on the school’s women’s lacrosse team with seven goals so far this spring.

The Hoosac Valley graduate scored three times on Saturday as the second-year program earned its first win of the season, a 12-9 victory over Daniel Webster College.

Lesure and the Mountaineers are scheduled to host MCLA, another second-year program, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Last year when the teams met, Lesure scored five goals in a 16-12 MCLA win.

In women’s track and field action over the weekend, Wahconah graduate Jaclyn Farrell finished third in the triple jump to help the Westfield State Owls finish second at the Coast Guard Invitational. Farrell hopped, skipped and jumped 31 feet, 6-¾ inches in the triple jump and also competed in the long jump.

In Division I track and field, a pair of Berkshire County alumnae helped lead the Holy Cross Crusaders to a first-place finish at the Central Connecticut Invitational.

Senior Oona Wood, a Mount Greylock graduate, ran a leg on Holy Cross’ second-place quartet in the 4-by-400 relay. Her classmate, Elizabeth Provost of Hoosac Valley, placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 36 feet, 2-¼ inches.

A pair of Monument Mountain graduates have helped the Regis College softball team to a 5-5 start this season.

Sisters Alexa Nejaime and Michaela Nejaime are hitting .286 and .200, respectively. Alexa, a sophomore catcher, has five hits and five RBIs in eight games. Michaela, a senior infielder, has a double and a pair of RBIs so far this spring.

On the baseball diamond, Dickinson College freshman Ian Brink has one start and three appearances on the bump this spring. He has an ERA of 5.00 and has held opponents to a .212 batting average for the Red Devils (15-7).

Up at New Hampshire’s Plymouth State College, Eric Leitch is hitting .400 in 20 at-bats this spring. Last week, the Mount Greylock graduate came off the bench to go 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in a 26-9 win over Daniel Webster for the Panthers (9-9).

New England College freshman and Mount Greylock graduate Liam Chenail has three goals and an assist in nine games for Pilgrims (5-5).

At Bridgewater State, sophomore Michael Kotleski, a Monument Mountain graduate, finished second in the 400 meters (51.52 seconds) at Saturday’s Corsair Classic at UMass-Dartmouth.

The Coast Guard Invitational saw the Worcester Polytechnic men finish second, and Taconic grad Matt Rabasco played a role. The WPI freshman finished sixth in the 10,000 meters, clocking a time of 35:14.69.

In Division I men’s track, Lenox High graduate and Georgetown University junior Scott Carpenter finished sixth with nearly a 15-second improvement from his indoor PR as he clocked a 14:06.57 in the 5,000 at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., on Saturday. In the fall, Carpenter ran for a Hoya cross country team that finished 10th at the NCAA Championships.
