Naventi, Larmon Lead Lenox Past McCann Tech
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Shaler Larmon and Paul Naventi each scored five goals Monday to lead the Lenox boys lacrosse team to a 19-3 win over McCann Tech on Gene Dellea Field at Berkshire Community College.
The Millionaires jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter and led, 15-2, at half-time in cruising to a 6-0 record to start the season against a short-handed McCann Tech squad.
It marked Lenox’s fifth double-digit margin of victory in that start and gave the team a new season high for goals scored.
The Hornets (2-3) were hampered by illnesses and vacation absences. McCann Tech took the field without 10 of its regulars, including five of its starters as it dropped its third in a row after back-to-back one-goal losses to Pittsfield and Hoosac Valley.
Millionaires coach Brett Larmon said he is happy with his team’s growth one month into the season as Lenox looks to repeat as Western Mass Champion.
“We’re progressing day by day,” Larmon said. “Pittsfield gave us a tough game the other night. I know McCann is a lot better than this. They’re just missing a lot of kids.”
Larmon sounded as disappointed as McCann Tech coach Marshall Maxwell about the circumstances of Monday’s game.
“It’s hard to play games during the break,” Larmon said. “If they were healthy and had all their kids here, it might have been a better game.
“We knew that coming in. We tried to move it, but there are too many games. We’re too packed in.”
The Hornets have 11 games left over the next month, starting with Thursday’s trip to Granby. Lenox also has 11 games left in its regular season, starting Friday at St. Mary’s.
The Millionaires got off to a fast start on Monday with five goals in the first four minutes of play.
Donny Bowler opened things up with an assist from Ian Mack 24 seconds into the contest. Shaler Larmon then scored twice around a Mack goal to push the lead to 4-0 with 3 minutes, 17 seconds off the clock. Twenty-six seconds later, Kitson Stover scored an unassisted goal to make it 5-0.
Stover, Finn Lenehan and Luke Gamberoni each scored a pair of goals on Monday. The Millionaires got goals from eight different players.
“It’s really balanced scoring, which is great, which I love,” Brett Larmon said. “Assists from everybody. We’re really moving the ball well, so, all in all, it was a good team win. I think if we play like this, move the ball like that against anybody, we’ll be pretty hard to beat.”
Jake Tuoponce got the Hornets on the board midway through the second quarter to make it 10-1. McCann Tech’s Josh Tuoponce scored later in the quarter with an assist from Cole Maxwell to make it an 11-point margin.
In the second half, Musa Thompson found the back of the net with an assist from Josh Tuoponce.
