Clayton Leads Wahconah Boys Lax to Comeback Win
LEE, Mass. -- Tim Clayton scored four goals, and the Wahconah boys lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal deficit to earn a 9-7 win over Lee on Wednesday.
“We came out flat,” Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. “It has been a major focus of our practices and huddles. Something has to change. We can’t expect to win 50/50 games when we go down 5-1 after the first quarter.
“On the positive, Tim Clayton took the team on his shoulders tonight and got us out of the hole almost by himself. It was great to see him do that. He gave us the spark we needed to get back into the game.”
Matt Mathers had a hat trick, and Dayton Kozlowski assisted on three for Wahconah, who got 11 saves from Dom Orlandi in relief.
“I was also very happy with the goalie play of Dom Orlandi who entered the game mid first quarter,” Sondrini said. “He had a shutout for the 2nd and 3rd quarter. That game could've gone very different it he hadn't made some clutch saves in the middle of the game. It gave us momentum.”
Homer Winston led Lee with two goals and two assists.
Wahconah (3-2) goes to Berkshire Community College to play Taconic on Friday.
