Wahconah Boys Lacrosse Roars into Sectional Semis
DALTON, Mass. -- Dart Jaggi had a goal and two assists, and Connor Washburn scored twice Friday night to lead the Wahconah boys lacrosse team to a 7-1 win over Nashoba Valley in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 3 quarter-finals.
Fourth-seeded Wahconah (14-5) advances to next week’s sectional semi-finals against either No. 1 Grafton (18-2) or Montachusett RVT (13-7), who play on Saturday afternoon.
“This senior class is really special to us,” Wahcoanh coach Zach Sondrini said. “It was our first class of freshmen when we took over the program and its really great to watch them turn into not only great lacrosse players but strong leaders.
“They are the class that built the our culture and tradition, and I've been saying it all year but they're a really special group and it makes coaching easy. They show up and compete everyday. For the last four years, we've been improving our record and pushing further into the tournament and it's all thanks to our senior class. This was a win for our alumni and everyone that worked so hard to get this program to where it is today. We're really lucky.”
Wahconah went to half-time tied, 1-1, on Friday afternoon but outscored its visitors, 6-0, in the second half to run away with the win.
Cole Accardi had three assists, and Wyatt Schleicher, Jeremy Girardi, Kyle Gazillo and Connor Noyes each scored a goal.
“Our defense and goalie did a great job stopping their best players,” We knew their tendencies and our defense executed. Offensively we were able to find our stride and break down their zone defense. It only took a half but we were able to find our sets that worked best. Winning the faceoff battle with Dayton Kozlwoski was huge for us today as well.”
