Haley Game-Winner Lifts Hoosac Valley Past Mount Greylock
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Nate Haley scored with 1 minute, 45 seconds left in regulation Monday to give the Hoosac Valley boys lacrosse team a 12-11 win over Mount Greylock.
The Hurricanes overcame an early deficit, got a huge save from Brady Larkin in the final minute and survived a back-and-forth second half to improve to 4-4 … and earn their second win in two seasons on John T. Allen Field.
“That was crazy,” Haley said after scoring a game-high six goals. “That’s crazy just to do the same thing twice on the same field against the same team.”
Last spring, Hoosac Valley earned the program’s first ever win against Mount Greylock in Williamstown en route to a run to the quarter-finals of the Central/Western Mass Division 3 tournament.
“Our team has dropped a lot of numbers from last year, but we have had a lot of young kids step up,” Haley said. “And we benefited from it.”
Casey Meczywor and Josh Paree each scored twice, and Carson Meczywor had a goal and three assists.
Larkin made 12 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
“Our defense and goalie stood on their head,” Haley said. “Our defense locked down in the fourth quarter and for the whole game, basically.”
Mount Greylock keeper David Falk made 20 saves in the Mounties’ loss.
Mount Greylock, which saw a three-game winning streak come to an end, got five goals from Taylor Cummings and a pair of goals apiece from Sean Malloy and Mac Waynick.
The Mounties (5-3) host Northampton on Wednesday.
Hoosac Valley hosts Lee on May 6.
