Defense Key in Hoosac's Win Over Wahconah
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Brandon Ellsworth scored three goals, and Hoosac Valley held Wahconah scoreless in the first half en route to a 7-6 win on Thursday afternoon.
"We had very solid play by the defensemen and the goalie through three quarters," Hoosac coach John Alibozek said. "They became a little worn down by the fourth."
Wahconah scored two goals in the third to cut Hoosac’s lead to 5-2, but the Hurricanes scored twice in the fourth to just hold off the visitors' attempted comeback.
Nick Waterman finished with two goals and an assist, and Matt Hall and Tyler Jayko each scored a goal.
"Smooth crisp passes by both the middies and attack saved them a lot of energy for the final quarter," Alibozek said. "Smart execution of the penalty kill paid of for us."
Wahconah’s Wyatt Schleicher scored twice, and Connor Washburn had three assists.
Cam Alibozek stopped 10 shots to earn the win in Hoosac’s goal. Vinnie Orlandi had nine stops for Wahconah (4-4), which hosts Taconic on Saturday.
Hoosac Valley (2-3) hosts McCann Tech on Saturday.
