Chicopee Boys Top McCann Tech in Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Dan Vazquez scored six goals and added an assist Thursday to lead the Chicopee boys lacrosse team to a 16-4 win over McCann Tech in the season opener for both teams.

 

Justin Meczwor scored twice, Jason Delisle had a goal and two assists, and Javen Reinhardt scored his first career goal for the Hornets.

 

McCann Tech coach Paul Lange said his team had an encouraging start to the program's second season despite the final score.

 

"We have a lot of young players, a lot of first-year players playing in the game," Lange said. "It was a great learning experience. They all rose to the occasion. They all stepped up.

 

"It was the first time we've seen the field all year. They played very well, all things considered."

 

Lange was pleased with the defensive effort he got from Dakota Bolte, Brian Boudreau and Justin Horn. Taden Bolte was credited with five saves.

 

McCann Tech (0-1) is scheduled to host Lee on Tuesday.
