LEE, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Lacrosse Officials Association presented Peter Romeo with its 2018 Defensive Player Award on Saturday at the Lee High Lacrosse Banquet.

BCLOA President, Joe Maruco, presented the award to the Wildcats senior captain.

Romeo, the son of Peter and Allison of Lee, was a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team. He is a three-year all-Berkshire County second-team selection and a 2017 All Western Mass First-Team selection.

Romeo was also captain of the Lee High football team, earning first-team
Inter County League honors and is vice president of the Lee High chapter of the National Honor Society.

Peter will be attending Norwich University in the fall as a member of the Army ROTC Corps of Cadets, studying criminal justice.

The BCLOA presented its sportsmanship award to Wahconah senior Jeremy Girard, a midfielder who scored 29 goals and passed out a team-high 41 assists this spring en route to earning all-Berkshire County recognition and helping his team advance to the quarter-finals of the Central/Western Massachusetts tournament.

"Jeremy is a model player and great kid," Wahconah coach Zach Sondrini said. "He brought the right attitude of sportsmanship, hard work, mental toughness, and respect for the game for all four years at Wahconah. In his spare time he also gave back to the community by helping coach our senior youth lacrosse team with his older brother Chris.

"Next season he will be going on to play for the UMASS Boston Beacons men's lacrosse team and studying business."

Girard was a three-sport captain in football, basketball and lacrosse and a member of the school's chapter of the National Honor Society.
