Pittsfield's Warriar Shuts Out Monument Mountain

PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Roshan Warriar Tuesday threw a complete game to lead the Pittsfield baseball team to a 3-0 win over Monument Mountain in the Western Massachusetts Class B Quarter-Finals.

 

Jack Abel and Nick Brindle each drove in a run for the top-seeded Generals, who advance to host Hampshire Regional on Thursday.

 

Brindle also locked down Monument's offense with a perfect fielding game at shortstop.

 

For Monument, Jack Bissialon struck out three and allowed just two earned runs in a complete-game loss. 

 

The Spartans struggled defensively with three errors, causing an unearned run.

 

The weather played a factor in the defensive part of the game, causing many bobbles by both teams.

 

“Well we can always improve every aspect of the game,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said.

 

“I'd like for them to drive the ball a little more consistently each at bat, other than that pitching and playing defense is the name of the game."

 

Warriar, who struck out four and walked one while allowing three hits in the shutout win, came out of the game with confidence.

 

“There's always things to improve on, but we are not too worried," Warriar said.

 

“I trust these guys a lot just throwing strikes and allowing our defense to make the plays.”

 

Pittsfield's offense gave Warriar all the run support he needed in the bottom of the first.

 

Jake Duquette singled to left with one out, stole second and scored on Brindle's line drive single to center field.

 

Pittsfield then tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings.

 

The Generals Thursday will look to avenge a 9-8 loss to Hampshire in last spring's Western Mass Class B Quarter-Finals.

 

Monument Mountain, which got a double from Christian Blanchard in a three-hit attack, awaits its next opponent in the tournament's losers bracket.
