Shelsy Leads Mounties to Third Straight Win
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Jackson Shelsy went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Mount Greylock baseball team to a 10-0, five-inning win over Ludlow on Thursday.
Jameson Bayliss also went 3-for-3 for the Mounties in a 12-hit attack.
Landen Jamula hit a line drive single with one out in the bottom of the fifth to score Derek Paris and end the game as Mount Greylock won its third straight to improve to 4-1 this spring.
“We finally had a chance to put a team away in the fifth, and we came through,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “We threatened every inning, but we had three baserunning blunders in the first two innings, which caused us three outs and surely some runs. We really need to clean that up as we move forward in the season.
“Besides that, we played great, beginning with our pitcher, Chase Doyle. Chase is coming off an injury to his throwing thumb which sidelined him for a few weeks. This was his second game back and first on the bump. He looked sharp, pounding the zone with fastballs. His offspeed may take another outing or two to get a good feel for it, but I was very happy with what I saw. This makes our team that much better and gives us lots of depth at that position.”
Doyle struck out five and allowed just two hits and no walks in the win.
Derek Paris went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of stolen bases, and Jamula went 2-for-3 at the plate.
“Freshman Jameson Bayliss got his first start at second base and took full advantage of it with three hits and made a handful or more plays on the defensive end,” Rick Paris said.
Mount Greylock goes to Hopkins Academy on Monday.
