BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Derek Paris went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and struck out six in a complete-game effort on the mound Wednesday to lead the Mount Greylock baseball team to an 11-6 win over Belchertown.

Landen Jamula was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Jackson Shelsy drove in a pair of runs as Mount Greylock improved to 2-1.

“I was pleased with the outcome and how we came out early in the game and put pressure on their defense,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “Derek led off with a rocket that hit the left-center fence. Then Landen followed with a line drive single to get us going, this set the tone for the rest of the game.

“Belchertown, I believe, was 3-0 with a couple shutouts in the books, so to score 11 in the first five innings was huge for us and a great confidence builder.”

Paris said he thought his team lost its focus, late as the Orioles scored four in the bottom of the seventh.

But Derek Paris got the final out on a swinging strike with a runner on second base to end the game.

Mount Greylock is scheduled to go to Monument Mountain on Thursday.
