WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Jack Gangelosi struck out seven and surrendered just two hits Saturday in a complete-game, 2-0 win over Monument Mountain.

Chase Doyle stole home in the second inning for the winning run.

After drawing a leadoff walk, Doyle moved to second when Thomas Martin earned a free pass and third on Jackson Shelsey’s sacrifice bunt.

In the third, the Mounties picked up an insurance run when Dylen Harrison singled, went to second on a wild pitch and third on Doyle’s groundout before scoring on an RBI single by Martin.

"We were able to get runners on early, but because of some mental base-running mistakes, we ran ourselves out of two potential big innings," Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. "We will need to clean that up if we want to compete in Western Mass and have a chance to go deep in the tourney."

In the top of the fifth, Monument Mountain put runners on first and second with nobody out.

"They attempted to sacrifice, but the ball was thrown high, and catcher Derek Paris back-picked the runner on second," Rick Paris said. "The next play, we turned a 5-4-3 double play. That was huge."

The Spartans threatened again late, getting runners to second and third with two out, but Cangelosi was able to get the last out on an infield fly.

Cam Raifstanger and Marco Buffoni each had a single for Monument Mountain. Buffoni and Collin Parker split time on the mound, striking out five.

The Spartans (4-3) go to Lenox on Sunday.

Mount Greylock (5-2) takes a three-game winning streak into Monday’s home game against Lee.
