GREENFIELD, Mass. -- Philip Guest drove home Cal Messina in the top of the ninth to break a 6-6 tie and send the Mount Greylock baseball team on to an 8-6 win over Mohawk Trail in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 quarter-finals on Wednesday.

The fifth-seeded Mounties (15-5) battled back from an early 5-0 deficit on Monday to tie the game in the seventh inning before rain forced the game to be suspended and concluded on Wednesday at Greenfield’s Veterans Field.

On Monday, it was Guest driving in Messina to tie the game at 6-6.

The winning rally Wednesday started when Brandon Condon drew a leadoff walk. He was thrown out trying to steal second, but Messina walked with one out.

Messina then stole second and took third on an error.

With two out, Guest hit an infield single to the left side to bring Messina home.

Guest took second on Reece Gillette’s single and scored on a hit by Cole Wojtkowski to give the Mounties some insurance.

Messina doubled, drove in a run and scored, and Wojtkowski went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Brandon Condon went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and pitched 2-⅓ innings in relief of Nick Rondeau to earn the win on the mound.

Condon struck out two and allowed just one hit and no runs. Rondeau was tagged with four unearned runs.

Mount Greylock goes to Western New England University on Thursday to play top-seeded South Hadley (16-5) in the sectional semi-finals.
