Holland, Mounties Top Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock baseball team defeated Wahconah Monday afternoon, 10-1.
The Mounties held a 1-0 lead through four innings. In the fifth, Delaney Pudvar had an RBI single, bringing in Eric Hirsch. That was followed by an RBI for Dan Flynn, taking a 3-0 lead.
Wahconah got on board in the fifth with two outs. Tyler Cowdrey had a one run single, bringing home Ryan Washburn.
"Eli [Holland], started and he pitched a great game," Mount Greylock coach Steve Messina said. "You could see in the fifth inning that they were kind of getting to him a bit, but if we get five innings out of a pitcher we're pretty happy about it."
Holland struck out three in five innings for the Mounties, walked four, and allowed one run.
Greylock plated three more in the top of the sixth inning with RBI singles from Brodie Altiere, Ian Brink and Pudvar.
Wahconah switched pitchers midway through through the sixth; Austin Cancilla pitched six innings and struck out two. Kyle Kirchner took over in the sixth, Gage Frazier came out to close in the seventh, but Greylock continued to hit.
Will Genaway took over on the mound for Wahconah in seventh to close the game.
Altiere had an RBI in the seventh, followed by a one-run double for Brink and a two-run triple for Jake Benzinger to leave the final score at 10-1.
Adam Hall closed for Greylock, striking out two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
"He's built for that kind of situation, to come in with a lead," Messina said. "He's used to that position, it was a normal routine for him to come in and finish the game for us."
Mount Greylock (11-2) goes to Lenox on Wednesday. Wahconah (11-3) hosts Pittsfield on Tuesday.
