Warriors Pull Out One-Run Win Over Hurricanes
DALTON -- The Wahconah baseball team scored two runs off of Hoosac Valley reliever Nate Alibozek in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Warriors a 4-3 win at home on Monday afternoon. The Hurricanes (1-1) took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and went back ahead 3-2 after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Senior Collin Kline got the start for Hoosac, giving up two runs in three innings of work. Alibozek came on and worked two innings of relief, striking out two batters while also walking a pair. Unfortunately for Alibozek, his two runs were unearned. Despite outhitting Wahconah 9-6, Bob Rivard's team made four errors on the day compared to none for the Warriors.
"I don't think we played as clean a game as we needed to," Rivard said. "We had nine hits and could have scored additional runs, but poor base running hurt us. Our pitchers gave us a chance, but we couldn't get it done. Wahconah was very opportunistic and basically outplayed us when it counted."
Eight different Hurricanes collected hits on the afternoon, led by senior captain Nick Bourdon, who went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Hoosac next hosts Taconic at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
