WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Anton Lazits was dominant, and the Taconic baseball team Wednesday broke open a tied game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a 5-1 win over Southwick in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 semi-finals.

The win helped set up an all-Berkshire County sectional final on Saturday at UMass-Amherst with Wahconah holding up its end on the other side of the D3 bracket, beating Frontier, 9-8.

At Westfield State on Wednesday, Lazits struck out 16, walked just one and scattered five hits to earn the complete-game victory.

The Taconic sophomore struck out the last six batters he faced after giving up a single to start the sixth inning.

He also had a single and scored in the winning rally in the fifth inning.

Jake Harrington got things started with an infield single, and Lazits’ hit to left put runners at first and second.

Christian Womble then tripled to center to score two runs and give his team a 3-1. Womble scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Womble went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Harrington went 2-for-2 in a six-hit Taconic attack.

Taconic has won a Western Mass title the last two seasons -- in 2017, when it went on to win the Division 1 state title, and last year when it lost in the D3 state final.
