Aaron Livsey Walkoff Double Propels McCann Tech in State Tourney
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Aaron Livsey hit a walkoff double in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday to give the McCann Tech baseball team a 17-16 win over Westfield Tech in the preliminary round of the Division 5 State Tournament.
The marathon game at Joe Wolfe Field featured 27 hits, 16 errors and five pitching changes.
It also featured two big comebacks by the Hornets, who trailed, 16-15, going to the bottom of the eighth.
The winning rally started when Collin Booth hit a one-out single to center field.
He scored on a double by Owen Gagne to tie the game.
One batter later, Livsey hit the Hornets’ second double in a row to chase home Gagne and end the game.
Livsey went 3-for-4, and Landon Champney went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to lead McCann Tech’s offense.
Austin Buda and Noah DeBenedetto also each hit a double.
DeBenedetto’s double drove in two runs in McCann Tech’s five-run sixth inning to tie the game, 15-15.
DeBenedetto ended up with a game-high five RBIs.
Booth earned the win on the mound with four innings of relief. He struck out six, walked four and allowed five earned runs. He also got a strikeout to end the top of the eighth with the bases loaded.
McCann Tech (11-8) advances to face second-seeded Georgetown (10-10) on the road on Sunday in the Round of 32.
