Howland, Hornets Walk Off with Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Jacob Howland hit a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to give the McCann Tech baseball team a 6-5 win over Smith Academy on Monday.
The Hornets rallied for a run in the bottom of the inning after Smith Academy scored three times in the top half to erase a 5-2 deficit.
Most of the offense came late.
After the Hornets broke a scoreless tie with two in the fourth, Smith Academy came back to tie it in the top of the sixth. McCann Tech then scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to take the three-run cushion to the seventh.
After that lead evaporated, McCann Tech started the game-winning rally when Josh Livsey earned a one-out walk.
He then stole second to get into scoring position.
With two-out, Howland drove a 1-1 pitch to the left side of the infield. Livsey raced home as Smith Academy attempted to catch Howland at first.
Howland finished the day with a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs.
Austin Buda and Seth Farnsworth also had two hits apiece in a 10-hit McCann Tech attack.
Owen Gagne earned the win on the mound with a third of an inning of relief, striking out the only man he faced.
The Hornets’ Collin Booth went 6-⅔, striking out 11, walking two and allowing three earned runs.
McCann Tech (2-2) goes to Franklin Tech on Thursday.
