McCann Tech Baseball Falls in State Voc Tourney
BOURNE, Mass. – Less than 24 hours after playing a highly emotional battle against its cross town rival, the McCann Tech baseball team crossed the commonwealth and never got on track in an 8-1 loss to Upper Cape Tech in the State Vocational Tournament on Wednesday.
Tyler Kutil struck out eight, walked none and allowed no earned runs for Upper Cape in a complete-game effort on the mound.
The Hornets tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the second, when Troy Tassone reached on an outfield error, went to second on another error, moved up a base on Jacob Howland’s single and scored when Brodie Hayden grounded into a fielder’s choice.
The hosts came back with a run in the bottom of the second to retake the lead and rallied for five runs in the fourth to take control of the game.
Zach Howland took the loss on the hill for McCann Tech. Dylan Turner and Nolan Booth combined for 2 and one-third innings of one-run relief.
The Hornets (14-6) learned Wednesday that they are seeded 17th in the Division 5 State Tournament, which means they will go back on the road for the first round to face Maynard on Saturday afternoon.
