PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The 2024 Berkshire County high school baseball season came to a close on Monday with an All-Star Game at Wahconah Park.

 

This game was pretty all over the place with both fun and competitive play.

 

Highlight moments from the game were:

 

• Morrie Fried's three-run home run to add to the eight he hit for the Generals this season;

 

• Damon Pause batting 3-for-3 with two RBIs as well as pitching two innings and striking out four batters;

 

• Nick Brindle touched the mound for the first time in his high school career;

 

• many exciting fielding plays like double plays from the Mount Everett Eagles;

 

• and Mount Greylock players making diving plays in the outfield.

 

This game was a true showcase of the Berkshires talent tallying nearly 20 runs between the “Home” team, which included players from Pittsfield, Monument Mountain, Lenox and Mount Everet and the “Visitors,” with all-stars from Taconic, McCann Tech, Drury, Wahconah and Mount Greylock.

 

The game lasted just more than 2 hours,15 minutes highlighted by a Christian Salzarulo 11-pitch at-bat.

 

This game would mark the ending to the seniors high school career and a fair welcome to the sophomores going into their higher years.

 

“I’ve had his [Wahconah’s Colby Robb’s] number all year,” Fried said of his homer. “He threw me a nice curveball down the middle, and I just set back and ripped it.”

 

The ball landed off the back wall of Wahconah Park’s bullpen area.

 

Fried and his Pittsfield teammates were late arrivals to the party, first attending the team’s season-ending banquet after its run to the state title game and then rushing to the park.

 

“It was very different,” Brindle said of the all-star experience. “It felt good to be out there, and I did not expect to be pitching.”

 

Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce had a good laugh after the game after putting the senior on the mound.

 

Amidst the long seven-inning game, punctuated by the traditional Wahconah Park Sun delay, both teams combined for 12 different pitchers.

 

Damon Pause, who started on the mound in the first inning did not retouch the field till the 7th inning.

 

When he did, he blasted a two-RBI double off of Brindle.

 

This made the game closer as a 9-8 score.

 

To cap off the game the home team decided to bat even with the lead bat in the bottom of the 7th.

 

Pause ended up putting them down 1-2-3, finishing with a aggressive celebration after striking out his fourth.
