CLINTON, Mass. – The Pittsfield baseball team Saturday rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie and went on to a 12-5 win over Clinton in the quarter-finals of the Division 4 State Tournament.

Morrie Fried went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Jack Abel went 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs to lead the sixth-seeded Generals into the Final Four, where they will face No. 10 East Bridgewater, a 2-1 winner over No. 18 Dennis-Yarmouth in the quarters.

“Our offense stayed hot,” Pittsfield coach Drew Pearce said. “Clutch two-out hits and great base running allowed us to outlast a tough Clinton team. The boys were up for a fight today.”

Jason Codey struck out six and walked on ein 5 and two-thirds innings of work on Saturday to earn the win on the mound. Simon Mele provided an inning and a third of scoreless relief to close the game.

Pittsfield (19-5) and Clinton were tied, 5-5, heading to the sixth inning.

But Codey singled, Jackson Almeida doubled and Ben Jacob drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out.

Jake Duquette singled to drive in a run and put the Generals ahead, 6-5.

Then, with one out, Fried hit a two-run single and, with two out, Abel doubled to center field to score a pair and make it 10-5.

In the top of the seventh, Duquette singled in a run and scored on a ground ball by Nick Brindle to give Mele some insurance.
