Lenox's Meisberger Wins All-State 400 Hurdles Title
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Lenox Memorial senior Shannon Meisberger won the girls 400 meter hurdles at the All-State Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Bridgewater State University.
Meisberger hit the tape in 1 minute, .6 seconds, more than a second faster than runner-up Elise O'Leary of Milton, who clocked a time of 1:01.90.
Lenox sophomore Tate Morrison also competed in the event, finishing in 25th place at 1:10.74.
Meisberger's 10 points were enough to put Lenox in 24th place out of the 73 girls teams scoring in the meet, which was won by Milton with 47 points.
Drury's Connor Meehan and Wahconah's Victoria Gamberoni also qualified for the New England Track and Field Championships with their performances on Saturday at Bridgewater State University.
Gamberoni placed sixth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:22.21. Natick's Grace Connolly was the all-state champ in 10:43.61.
Meehan placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.19. The event was won by Newton North's Theo Burba in 1:54.50.
Mount Greylock freshman Madison Ross competed in the girls 100 meters but missed the finals, running a time of 12.87. Her teammate, Elizabeth Bartlett, went from graduate in the morning to girls discus throwers in the afternoon and recorded a throw of 92 feet, 8 inches in an event won by Longmeadow's abbie Mokwah in 128-03.
Monument Mountain's Aubrey Blanchard finished 15th inthe 400 meters, going under a minute with a time of .59.80. The winner was Old Rochester's Meg Hughes in 56.56. Monument also competed in the mile relay, where the Spartans were 16th out of 26 teams with a time of 4:11.61; Andover won the event with a 3:55.42
Lenox's Magdalena Sorrentino finished 20th in the 800 meters (2:20.44),and Emma Jourdain was 21st in the 3,200 (11:45.41). Lenox's 4-by-400 relay team finished 24th in 10:03.77.
In the boys meet, Wahconah's Matthew Lighten and Sean Harvey competed. Lighten was 10th in the qualifiers for the 100 meters, just missing out on the finals with a time of 11.17. Harvey clocked a 15.91 in the prelims for the 110 hurdles.
Monument Mountain's Matt Weston posted a time of 23.22 in the prelims for the 200 meters.
