Meisberger Leads Lenox Girls to Second Place at Western Mass Meet
BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Shannon Meisberger won two events and placed second in a third Saturday to lead the Lenox girls track and field team to a second place finish at the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championships at Mohawk Trail Regional HIgh School.
South Hadley’s girls won the event with 97 points. The Millionaires finished with 80, just ahead of third-place Mount Greylock (75).
On the boys side, Monson was victorious with 114 points, easily outpacing runner-up Southwick (72). Berkshire County rivals Monument Mountain and Mount Greylock were right behind with 68.5 points and 66 points, respectively.
Meisberger won the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 4.52 seconds, and the 200 dash in 25.79 seconds.
In the latter event, she edged Mount Greylock freshman Madison Ross (26.74).
Ross won the 100 in 12.94 and the high jump, clearing 5 feet.
Lenox’s girls got wins from Maggie Sorrentino in the 800 (2:21.89) and Emma Jourdain in the 3200 (11:35.44). Lenox’s girls also won the 4-by-800 relay with a time of 10:21.23, more than 8 seconds ahead of runner-up South Hadley.
Monument Mountain’s Jasmin Johannsdottir finished just behind Sorrentino in the 800, finishing in 2:22.92. The Spartans got a win from Aubrey Blanchard in the 400 (1:00.22).
Wahconah’s Victoria Gamberoni won the mile in 5:16.72.
Drury sophomore Laura Thomas finished second in the javelin with a throw of 102-6.
Drury’s Connor Meehan earned two titles, winning the 800 in 2:01.27 and the mile in 4:34.28.
Mount Greylock’s boys took two relay titles: the 4-by-400 (3:38.02) and the 4-by-800 (8:50.32). The Mounties also got second-place finishes from Jesse Seid in the 3,200 (10:37.12), Sam Culver in the mile (4:46.60) and Cameron Castonguay in the 400 (52.10).
Monument Mountain’s Matt Weston won the 100 in 11.54 and the 200 in 23.20. The Spartans also got a second-place finish by Jordan Piepho in the javelin (144-06).
Wahconah’s Sean Harvey won the 110 hurdles in 15.94.
