Athletes of the Week: Forfa & Meisberger
Ethan Forfa
Wahconah
Few sophomores could hope for a better debut as a regular varsity contributor on the diamond. Wahconah's Ethan Forfa was a late-season call-up last spring, but he opened this year by winning Wahconah's first two outings: in relief on the road at Hoosac Valley and no-hitting defending Western Mass champion Monument Valley three days later.
"During the game I tried not to think about the no-hitter as much as I could, but in the last inning coming out for my warm up pitches, it was in the back of my mind and I decided that I needed to turn it up a notch for the last inning and finish off the game strong," Forfa said. "My teammates did a good job of not talking about the no hitter I had going, so I could keep my composure."
Shannon Meisberger
Lenox
They did not keep team scores at last week's Berkshire County Invitational track and field meet, but if they did, Meisberger would have been an MVP, and her Lenox team likely would have run away with the team title.
Meisberger captured first place in both hurdle events and the high jump and finished second in the long jump at the early season meet at Williams College. She came into the event doubting her own chances after coming down with a knee ailment during the winter, but she was in mid-season form on Williams' Lee Track, edging Wahconah's Gianna Moncecchi by a mere three-hundredths of a second in the 100-meter hurdles and by a more comfortable three seconds in the 400 hurdles.
