Lenox Girls Win Western Mass Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Nora Schoeny, Gianna Love and Elyssa Scrimo Sunday led the Lenox girls cross country team to a narrow victory in the Division 2 race at the Western Massachusetts Championships at Stanley Park.

 

The trio placed seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively to help the Millionaires finish with 68 points, four points ahead of runner-up Hampshire Regional, which tied with Mount Greylock with 72 points apiece.

 

The Mounties were paced by Josephine Bay, who placed sixth.

 

Lenox and Mount Greylock were two of four Berkshire County squads to finish in the top 10.

 

Monument Mountain, which had the individual winner, Amelia Desilets, placed fourth. Pittsfield High's girls were sixth.

 

Desilets covered the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes flat, 26 seconds ahead of Hampshire's Kathleen Berry. Desilets' teammate, Rae Geddes, placed fifth out of 139 finishers.

 

In the boys race, Desilets' and Geddes' fellow Spartan Everett Pacheco was 31 seconds ahead of the field to win the individual title. Pacheco hit the finish line in 15:29; Frontier's Evan Hedlund was second in 16:00.

 

Hampshire's boys won the team title with 75 points.

 

Mount Greylock was second, four points behind. The Mounties were led by Rafa Mellow-Bartels, who placed fifth out of 160 runners with a time of 16:22.

 

Lenox's Benjamin Harwood placed third, 10 seconds behind Hedulund, to help the Millionaires to a fourth-place team finish.

 

Wahconah's boys were fifth in a 20-team field behind Noah Wesley's seventh-place finish.
