Lenox Girls, Monument Mountain Boys Win County Crowns
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Lenox’s girls and Monument Mountain’s boys Monday secured Berkshire County Alpine League Championships at Bousquet Mountain.
In a tightly contested girls team race, Maddie DiGrigoli placed second on Monday to lead Lenox to a team win on the night and 10 points in the season standings – enough to put the Millionaires three points clear of runner-up Pittsfield for the seasonal crown.
For the Generals, the league’s fastest skier all season, Eliza Mullen, again was the winner on Monday, her fifth win of the season to give a perfect 100 points in the individual standings, four points ahead of DiGrigoli.
Mullen’s Monday run led PHS to a second-place showing on the night and a second-place finish on the season in the five-team league.
In the boys team competition, Monument Mountain’s second-place finish on Monday gave them nine points in the team standings and a four-point margin ahead of Lenox in the season standings to end the year.
Kitson Stover led the Spartans on Monday with a third-place showing, behind Taconic’s Keeghen Scott and Wahconah’s Alex Sternerup.
Scott’s win helped him edge out Stover for the individual title for the season. Sternerup finished third in the team standings.
Sternerup’s Wahconah squad won the team race on Monday, its second win of the season, but it was not enough to move ahead of Lenox in the team standings; the Millionaires, who placed second in five of the year’s six races, also finished second in the standings to end the year.
The top 10 boys and girls from the league qualify for the State Championship meet, scheduled for Feb. 27 at Wachusett Mountain.
