Mary Elliot Leads Lenox Girls to Season-Ending Win

WINDSOR, Mass. -- Lenox's Mary Elliot skied to a three-second win to lead the Millionaires to a narrow two-point victory on Saturday at Nothcview Reservation.

 

Elliot edged Mount Greylock's Brandi Gill, who also started in the first wave, with a time of 17 minutes, 39 seconds.

 

Aidan Burns and Solia Herndon-Schmidt placed fourth and fifth for the Millionaires.

 

Ava Bachman scored the all important fourth finish, placing seventh. But she had backup in the form of teammate Grace Elliot, who finished eighth.

 

Lenox's and Mount Greylock's girls divided up the first 14 places before Hoosac Valley's Vienna Mahar came in in 15th place.

 

Mount Greylock once again dominated the boys race behind another first-place finish from Col McDermott.

 

McDermott crossed in 14:50 -- 44 seconds ahead of the field -- to finish the regular season without placing less than first in any race.

 

Amherst's Micah Bruner was the runner-up on Saturday, finishing in 15:34.

 

Third-place Foster Savitsky, Gabe Gerry and Ollie Swabey rounded out the scoring for Mount Greylock which finished with 21 points.

 

Hoosac Valley placed two in the top five: Corben Craig (15:47) was fourth, and Justin Levesque was fifth.

 

The best boys team race of the day was for third and fourth places.

 

Wahconah edged Amherst by one point behind a 12th-place showing by Hayden Kendall (16:19).

 

The county's teams now point toward the state championship, scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Notchview.
