Huth, Lenox Girls Edge Wahconah in Cross Country Opener

LEE, Mass. -- Lenox sophomore Ellen Huth placed first overall and led the Millionaires girls cross country team to a 25-32 dual meet win over Wahconah in Wednesday’s season opener at Lee High School.

 

Huth crossed the finish line in 21 minutes, 22.94 seconds to finish 19 seconds ahead of runner-up Halie Crosier of Wahconah (21:41.01).

 

Crosier was backed up by teammates Danni Orlando and Gabby Orlando in third and fourth, respectively, but Lenox took the next six places, starting with fifth-place Ava Bachman.

 

On the boys side, Lenox defeated Wahconah, 25-32, behind a fifth-place finish from Colin Young (19:22.18).

 

The top boys finisher in the four-school event was Taconic’s Jacob Paris, who beat the field by 34 seconds, finishing in 18:19.71 to lead his team to a 15-50 win over the host Wildcats.

 

Paris was followed by teammate Brandon Pelkey (18:53.31) and Wahconah’s P.J. Pharmer (19:15.03). Lee’s top finisher was Sebastian Dowd-Smith (20:26.42) in 14th place.

 

Taconic’s girls defeated Lee, 23-33.

 

Senior Carly Decelles led Taconic by placing 13th in 25:59.97. Lee’s top finisher was freshman Briann Kelly, who came home in 26:10.43.
