Pittsfield/Taconic Icer Quinto Earns Statewide Honor

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Pittsfield High senior Kevin Quinto has been selected to receive the Boston Bruins- MIAA Sportsmanship Award. 

 

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, an organization of more than 360 high schools from throughout the commonwealth, presents the annual sportsmanship award in conjunction with the Boston Bruins organization, to an individual from each high school ice hockey league in the state who best exemplifies the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship.

 

Quinto plays for the Taconic High hockey team, a cooperative team with PHS.

 

“On and off the ice, we’re extremely proud of this Kevin”, Taconic hockey coach Jeff Daury said. “Teamwork, sportsmanship, goal setting, and responsibility are all values that we preach.  Kevin is a talented student that represents our team, and our community, very well in each of those categories.”

 

Quinto will receive the award on Tuesday, April 4, at the TD Garden during intermission of the Boston Bruins game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Prior to the Bruins game, Quinto will also be a guest at a special reception held in the TD Garden.

 

Kevin, the son of Terry and John Quinto, is a senior at Pittsfield High School, scheduled to graduate in June with a GPA of more than 90.

 

In addition to serving as captain of the hockey team, Quinto also served as captain of the Pittsfield High golf team – where he garnered All-Western Mass honors, advanced to the Division I State Championships, and won the Berkshire Classic Individual Championship this past fall.

 

This winter, he was recognized by the Berkshire County Ice Hockey Officials Association with its Donald Troy Sr. Sportsmanship Award.

 

At this time, he is considering a number of colleges, with the hopes of continuing his academic and golf careers.
