Local Bowlers Compete at National High School Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Pittsfield High's Matt Dupuis placed 64th out of 388 boys competing at last weekend's U.S. High School Bowling National Championshps.

 

Dupuis Monday rolled games of 194, 166 and 185, missing the cut to qualify to the second stage of the day's "survivor rounds" competition.

 

At the end of the day, New Jersey's Kai Strothers of St. Joseph's High School was crowned the top boy at the championships after rolling a 249 in the final head-to-head match of the day.

 

Strothers had the 12th-highest cumulative score coming out of Sunday's qualifying rounds at the competition, rolling games of 214, 248 and 279.

 

Dupuis qualified 28th from Sunday, easily finishing in the top 150 to earn a berth into Monday's competition. On Sunday, Dupuis rolled games of 224, 245, 185 and 246 for a 900 four-game total and 225 average to reach the second day of the tournament.

 

Dupuis was one of four Berkshire County bowlers to make the trip to Pennsylvania for nationals.

 

McCann Tech's Michael Oakes (188, 138, 133, 217) joined Dupuis in the boys' draw on Sunday.

 

Lee's Devyn Fillio (147, 172, 179, 141) and Bella Kotek (127, 163, 147, 125) competed in the girls bracket.

 

Bowlers from 25 states competed at the three-day event, which began with a team competition on Saturday followed by two days of individuals.
