Coscia Second in Shot Put at D5 Meet
WESTON, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Kieran Coscia Monday took home his second silver medal of the meet at the Division 5 State Championships at Weston High School.
Coscia put the shot 52 feet, 6 inches, second only to the mark of 65-11 put up by Bishop Stang’s Jacob Cookinham. On Thursday, Coscia took second in the discus at the divisional championship.
Monday was a day of near misses for Pittsfield’s track and field team elsewhere at the meet.
The Generals’ Dezerea Powell in the 100 meters and Lucas Benoit in the 110 hurdles each finished in ninth place – just out of position to pick up a team point – by hundredths of a second in each case.
Lenox’s Solia Schmid earned her team points in two events, taking eighth in the 100 hurdles and the long jump. The Millionaires’ Alice Culver had the best showing by a Berkshire County girl at the meet, placing sixth in the mile.
Lenox’s boys posted a fifth-place finish in the 4-by-800 relay.
North Reading’s boys won the team championship with 55 points. Pittsfield, with 20 points, tied for 15th out of 36 teams scoring at the two-day event. Lenox’s boys tied for 18th with 16 points.
Host Weston ran away with the girls title with 102 points. Lenox was 27th with nine points.
