Pittsfield Volleyball Downs Mount Greylock
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield girls volleyball team defeated Mount Greylock on Wednesday evening, 3-1.
The Generals came out strong in the first two sets, holding the lead throughout. Greylock on the other hand, struggled to get the ball over the net on serves, giving Pittsfield the points.
Pittsfield won the first set 25-16.
The second set was back and forth; Greylock at one point was down five points and managed to tally some points to get within a point at 22-21. The Generals then took over and had some hard serves to finish and win the set 25-23.
“Pittsfield served really well tonight,” Mount Greylock coach John Albano said. “From here, we need to work on some serve-receive; Pittsfield was aggressive and they were all over the court.”
The Mounties were looking for a comeback in the third set. The score was tight throughout, and the two teams had a couple of rallies that had the fans on the edge of their seats. Jenna Benzinger for Greylock had some huge blocks; which led to the Mounties taking the third set 25-23.
"I told them during a timeout when we were ahead, that they weren’t going to give it up for us,” Pittsfield coach Brian Lawton said. “They’re a really good team and they really had their blocking going in that third game which got us a little congested.”
Although Pittsfield was short a few points from beating Greylock in straight sets; it was able to gain its composure back in the fourth set and win 25-16.
The Generals' placement on serves was key to their win in the fourth. Samantha Decarlo for Pittsfield went on a six-point run to give them the win.
