Spartan Girls Pull Away Late at Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Helen Thorp and Keaghan Kline each won a pair of events Tuesday to lead the Monument Mountain girls swim team to a 54-40 win over Pittsfield at the Boys and Girls Club.

 

Thorp won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke.

 

Kline took the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

 

Their back-to-back wins in the 100 back and 100 breaststroke, the last two individual events of the day, gave the Spartans an insurmountable 47-37 lead going into the day’s final event, the 400 free relay.

 

For the Generals, Maggie Vittum won the 50 free, and Hailey Rumlow touched first in the 500 free.

 

The Spartan boys earned a 62-27 win over the Generals.

 

Vincent Dragonetti, Isaac Schultze and David Iusco each won a pair of events for Monument Mountain.

 

Dragonetti won the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Schultze won the 100 free and 100 breaststroke. Iusco took the 200 IM and 100 back.

 

Pittsfield’s David Bernal won the 500 free.

 

The county’s top swimmers will travel to Craryville, N.Y., on Saturday to compete in the Berkshire County Individuals meet at Taconic Hills High School.
