Monument Mountain Girls Sixth at Sectional

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --Senior Zoe Holmes and ninth-grader Keaghan Kline Sunday led the Monument Mountain girls swim team to a sixth-place finish at the Central/Western Massachusetts Championships.

 

Holmes placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, .38 seconds. Kline was fourth in the 50 free (25.72) as the pair recorded the top individual finishes for any Berkshire County swimmers at the meet.

 

Kline and Holmes also teamed with Lily McDonald and Annabel Holmes for a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and with McDonald and Helen Thorp to place third in the 400 free relay.

 

Kline and Holmes also pointed in two other individual events.

 

Kline was just a fraction of a second behind her teammate to place fifth in the 100 fly. Holmes was seventh in the the 200 individual medley.

 

As a team, the Spartans compiled 144 points. The team event was won by Amherst-Pelham with 220; the Hurricanes edged runner-up Longmeadow by five points.

 

Taconic's girls placed 17th in a 27-team field in the girls meet.

 

Mia Zuccalo had a big day for the Thunder, placing fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 50 free. She also swam with teammates Kaitlyn Milette, Alissa Schettini and Mia Bencivenga on a pair of point-earning relays: the 200 medley and 400 free.

 

Pittsfield's girls were 5-1/2 points behind the Thunder in 18th place.

 

Kiera Devine led the way for the Generals, placing fifth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 200 freestyle.

 

Monument Mountain's boys team qualified in all three relays at the sectional meet, placing as high as 11th in the 200 free relay.

 

Quinn Dillon swam legs on two of those quartets and competed as an individual in the 100 fly and 100 back. The Monument Mountain boys placed 19th out of 27 teams in a meet won by Minnechaug.

 

Taconic's 200 free relay quartet of Gage Stately, Jonathan Bradway, Anthony Trapani and Scott Langlois placed 15th.
