Monument Mountain Girls Wrap Up Berkshire Alpine Title

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Grace Soule finished first in Monday’s giant slalom and led the Monument Mountain girls Alpine team to a team victory that clinched the Berkshire County League title with one race left in the regular season.

 

Soul hit the finish line in 49.88 seconds to edge Pittsfield’s Grace Ungewitter (50.13) on the individual leaderboard.

 

The team race was not nearly as close as the Spartans took five of the top seven positions in the girls race. Loghan Strzepa placed third, and Ava Consolati and Ella Saupe were fourth and sixth, respectively, to round out the scoring for Monument Mountain.

 

The Spartans have been first each of the first five races this winter, giving them 50 points and an insurmountable six-point lead over second-place PHS going into next week’s season finale at Bousquet.

 

The boys team race is much more competitive.

 

Lenox’s boys won last night behind a second-place finish by Rocco Piretti to take 10 points and a 46-45 lead over second-place Monument Mountain. Wahconah is just behind in third place with 44 points.

 

Each of those three teams has come out on top in at least one race in the first five races.

 

The individual winner on the boys side on Monday night was Pittsfield High’s Charlie Heimann, who finished in 45.24 to edge Piretti by .39 seconds.
