Holmes Leads County Contingent at State Swim Meet

BOSTON -- Monument Mountain's Zoe Holmes placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly at Saturday's Division 2 State Championship to help the Spartans place 26th out of 43 teams scoring points at Boston University's pool.

 

Holmes finished in 59.33 seconds, one of just seven swimmers in the meet to break a minute.

 

Dover-Sherborn's Ava Yablonski won the event in a meet-record time of 54.55.

 

Holmes picked up 13 team points for her effort in the fly.

 

She also swam a leg on Monment Mountain's 200-yard freestyle relay team, which placed 13th in the state. Holmes, Carolina Chassi, Annabel Holmes and Maddie Fife combined to finish in 1:46.66 and earn eight team points.

 

Holmes competed as an individual in the 200 individual medley finishing 17th and just out of point position. And the same four Monument Mountain swimmers teamed up to swim the 400 free relay. 

 

Monument Mountain finished with 21 team points. Amherst-Pelham won the meet with 235 points.

 

Taconic's girls placed 32nd in the state with 14 points, and Pittsfield was 40th with 6.5 points.

 

Mia Zuccalo earned nine team points for Taconic with a ninth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. She touched the wall in 1:11.10. Northampton's Sydney Abild won the event in 1:04.26.

 

Taconic's Mia Bencivenga earned team points in the 200 freestyle, finishing 15th in 2:04.36, and in the 500 freestyle, placing 14th in 5:33.50.

 

Pittsfield's Kiera Devine tied for 10th place in the 500, touching in 5:31.98, and earned 6.5 team points for the effort.

 

She also swam with Generals Riley Steinman, Emily Bradford and Jackie Roccabruna on a 19th-place 400 free relay quartet. Roccabruna competed in the 100 freestyle at the state meet.
