Monument Mountain, Pittsfield Girls Send Several to Saturday's State Meets
BOSTON -- Monument Mountain's Asa Stone enters Saturday's Division 1 State Swimming Championships as the No. 3 seed in the 100-yard butterfly.
Stone enters with one of four sub-minute seed times in the 18-swimmer field qualified for the meet at Boston University.
Stone's 59 second flat seed time is 2.60 seconds behind top seed Michaela Martin of Westford Academy. Martin's teammate Madison Leong is seeded secong at 58.91, just nine-hundredths ahead of Stone.
Stone also is seeded sixth in D1 in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.76. Again, Martin is the top seed at 57.77.
Stone is joined by several of her Monument Mountain teammates in the D1 meet, which is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Spartan sophomore Maddie Fife is qualified to compete in the 200 freestyle and 500 free. Freshman Zoe Holmes is entered in the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly along with Stone.
Monument's 200 free relay quartet is the No. 7 seed in the event. The Spartans' seed time of 1:45.27 puts them about six seconds behind top seed Westford (1:39.74).
At 1:30 on Saturday, it's the boys and girls Division 2 state championships, where Pittsfield's girls are qualified in all three relays, the 200 medley relay, 200 FR and the 400 FR.
Three Generals also are qualified as individuals in the D2 girls meet: Jordan Bradford in the 200 free, Kiera Devine in the 500 free and Szofia Lewis in the 100 backstroke.
Taconic freshman Mia Bencivenga is qualified in the 500 free in the D2 meet.
In the boys D2 meet, Wahconah senior Fred Sears is qualified in the 50 freestyle.
