Monument Mountain Girls Fifth at Central/Western Mass Sectional

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Wahcoah’s Ellie Field captured the 50-yard freestyle title, and the Monument Mountain girls finished in fifth place at Sunday’s Central/Western Massachusetts Swimming Championships at Springfield College.
 
Field won the 50 in a time of 24.84 seconds and placed second in the 100 free, finishing in 53.92 seconds — .02 seconds behind champion Samantha Kilcoyqne of Northbridge.
 
Monument Mountain’s Asa Stone was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:00.28), placing behind Northampton’s Ruby Gottlieb (:57.86) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.74), where she was edged by Longmeadow’s Casey Barrett (:59.21).
 
The Spartans’ Olivia Raifstanger placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.50, and Anna Rubino, Olivia Rubino, Stone and Aubrey Blanchard teamed up to place third in the 400 freestyle relay. The Monument quartet finished in 3:49.63 in an event won by Longmeadow in 3:40.52.
 
Monument amassed 150 points in the team standings. The team title went to Minnechaug, whose 313 points put them ahead of runner-up Longmeadow (300.5). Wahconah’s girls were 18th in the 27-team field. Pittsfield’s girls placed 24th.
 
Pittsfield was led by Jordan Bradford, who finished 12th in the 200 free in a time of 2:07.35.
 
In the boys championships, held later on Sunday, Monument Mountain’s Nick Dillon placed eighth in the 200 individual medley. Dillon finished in 2:08.72, cutting three and a half seconds off his see time but finishing behind Northampton’s Nick Whitcomb (1:55.73).
 
Longmeadow’s boys won the sectional team title with 338 points. Monument Mountain ended up 20th out of 26 teams earning points.
