Tobin Takes Bronze at State Swim Meet

BOSTON, Mass. -- Saint Joseph Central High School senior Jesse Tobin earned a third- and fourth-place finish on Saturday at the Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships.
 
Tobin finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 6.28 seconds. Franklin's Ashley Loomis won the event in 4:53.63.
 
In the 200 free, Tobin finished fourth in 1:56.22. Again, everyone was chashing Loomis, who doubled with a time of 1:51.10.
 
Tobin swam on a pair of relays for the Crusaders. In the 200 medley relay, she teamed with Elizabeth Bartlett, Theresa Kirsimagi and Ellie Field to finish seventh.
 
Tobin, Kendra Gallagher, Bartlett and Field were the 11th-place quartet in 200 free relay.
 
As an individual, Field placed fifth in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 54.13 in an event won by Triton's Maggie Summit in 52.16. Summit also won the 50 free (24.12), where Field was 11th in a field of 26, finishing in 25.20.
 
St. Joseph's girls finished 10th out of 37 teams competing in the meet. The Crusaders earned 91.5 points to finish just behind ninth-place Monument Mountain (94.5).
 
The Spartans posted a third-place finish in the 200 free relay with the quartet of Aubrey Blanchard, Kathleen Bissaillon, Emma Wilber and Caroline Bissaillon. They combined on a time of 1:42.40, finishing behind winner Westford Academy, which set a meet record of 1:37.48.
 
Wilber finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.32), an event won by Lincoln-Sudbury's Catherine Oppenheim in 1:07.42. And Wilber was sixth in the 100 butterfly (59.52), where Northbridge's Samantha Kilcoyne won in 57.44.
