Tobin, Wilber, Bissaillon Finish Strong at State Meet

BOSTON — St. Joseph Central School junior Jessie Tobin posted a third-place and a fourth-place finish at this weekend’s MIAA Division 2 Swimming Championships.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Tobin placed third, finishing in 5 minutes, 6.23 seconds. She shaved more than five seconds off her seed time and finished fewer than eight seconds behind winner Ashley Loomis (4:58.50) of Franklin.

 

In the 200 free, Tobin finished fourth with a time of 1:55.54. Again, Loomis was the victor, in 1:51.96.M

 

Monument Mountain junior Emma Wilber was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.77, finishing behind a pair of seniors, including Westfield’s Kelsey Johnstone (1:05.50). Wilber finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (:58.90), where Beverly’s Kaitlin Harty set a meet record of :54.69. 

 

Wilber’s teammate Caroline Bissaillon finished fifth in the 50 freestyle (:24.42), an event won by Concord-Carlisle’s Katherine O’Shea (:23.97).

 

Bissallon also placed eighth as an individual in the 100 free (:53.80).

 

The pair teamed up to help Monument post a couple of strong relay performances.

 

The Spartan quartet of Kathleen Bissaillon, Anna Rubino, Emma Wilber and Caroline Bissaillon finished fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:41.77; Westward Academy set a meet record with a winning time of 1:37.84.

 

Monument’s 400 free relay of Aubrey Blanchard, Kathleen Bissaillon, Wilber and Caroline Bissaillon finished seventh with a time of 3:44.46.

 

The Monument Mountain girls placed eighth in the state out of 37 schools scoring at the meet.

 

St. Joe finished in the top half of the field with a 17th-place finish.
