Mount Greylock Girls Lax Opens With a Win
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Lucy Barrett and Julia Whitney each scored three goals to lead the Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team to a 14-4 win over Chicopee Comp in the Mounties' season opener on Monday afternoon.
Maggie Rorke and Sarah Stripp each added a pair of goals, and Barrett and Stripp had two assists apiece for Mount Greylock.
Mounties coach Lindsey Von Holtz said her girls played well, especially considering it was their first time on a full field this spring. She thought their passing and finishing needed to improve after the first half, but they did a better job after intermission.
"Our midfield was strong, so we were able to keep it in our offensive end, but our offense was flat in the first half," she said. "There were a whole lot more passes in the second half.
"In the second half, there were a lot more connections -- looking up and finding the open person rather than just running down the field. A couple of times there were multiple connections, which gets the ball down the other end a whole lot quicker."
Rachel Clement, Alana Chesney, Caroline Flynn and Emma Polumbo each scored a goal for Mount Greylock, which got three saves from Sam MacWhinnie.
Mount Greylock travels to Hoosac Valley on Wednesday.
