Three From County Reach State Wrestling Semis

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Three Berkshire County wrestlers on Friday advanced to Saturday's semifinals at the state Division 3 championships at Taconic High School.
 
Isiah Williams will represent host Taconic in the final four at 152 pounds after picking up two pins on Friday.
 
He stopped Tyngsboro's Nick Janos in 1 minute, 52 seconds and pinned Wayland's Quinn Peebles with just 13 seconds left in their quarter-final match.
 
Williams will be joined in the semis by two wrestlers from Mount Greylock: Devin Pelletier at 160 and Alex Griffis at 195.
 
Pelletier pinned Danvers' Matt Reidy at 3:52 of their first-round match. In the quarters, Pelletier earned an 8-4 decision over Wayland's Jakob Warner.
 
Griffis earned a major decision in his opener, defeating Norton's Lucas Lavallee, 9-1. Then Griffis beat Melrose' Antonio Difronzo, 6-2.
 
Two other Mounties won their openers on Friday.
 
At 285, Hunter Abriel earned a pin over Rockland's Alex Freeman but then dropped into the consolation bracket after being pinned by Mason Bradford of Advanced MSA.
 
At 152, Cayman Mead needed just 53 seconds to advance to the quarters, where he was pinned by Sandwich's Matt Landry. Mead won his first match in the wrestlebacks to stay alive in Saturday's competition.
 
Taconic, like Mount Greylock, sent five wrestlers to the state meet. Zabion Powell (132), Mason Papiro (138) and Dalton Peck (285) each reached the quarter-finals before dropping to the consies.
 
Powell beat Rockland's Jon Goode, 7-5, before being pinned in the round of eight. Papirio pinned Triton's Jared Durkin but then was pinned himself at the 5:42 mark. Peck pinned Norton's Adrian Sokolowski at 4:11 but dropped an 8-0 decision in the next round.
 
Powell and Papirio each won their initial consolation bracket match.
 
Monument Mountain also sent five wrestlers to the tournament. Just one, Eli Jones at 113, won his opener on Friday.
 
Jones beat Norton's Cam Vatalaro, 6-0, on Friday afternoon but was pinned in th second round of his quarter-final.
 
Mount Everett's lone entrant, Pat Fosby, earned a pin in his opener at 120 but lost a pair of matches from there to be eliminated from the tournament.
