PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock golf team battled for a share of its first Berkshire County Golf Title Wednesday afternoon at Country Club of Pittsfield.

The Mounties beat the first-place Pittsfield Generals by two strokes,170-172, to end the season as co-champions finishing with records of 13-2.

"What a match, it was phenomenal," Greylock coach Brian Gill said. "Obviously we knew they were the best team in the county and we knew we would have to play our best.

"But, we didn't play our best, but they didn't either."

Greylock's lowest scores coming in came from their two seniors Matt Wiseman, who carded a 37, and Lilly Crolius (41).

Kyle Alvarez (44) and Ben Gilooly (48) also scored for the Mounties.

"You have to take note of our two seniors, Matt came in and carried us as a medalist, but Lilly came through with by far her best match of the season." Gill said.

Crolius birdied the ninth hole, Wiseman birdied the sixth and Alvarez birdied the 5th hole.

For Pittsfield, Jake Driscoll had a team low of 40, Kevin Quinto shot a 43, Rickey Berrian shot a 44, and Thomas Symanski shot a 45.

"They didn't play that good today, we struggled a little bit, Kevin didn't hit the ball as good and a lot of them just didn't hit as good as we have been, especially at home," Pittsfield coach Chris Polidoro said. "But Greylock played good and it was a really close match which is good."

The teams split the season series. Earlier this fall, the Generals won at Waubeeka Golf Links.

Both teams will move on to Western Mass; Pittsfield in the Division 1 Tournament on Monday and Greylock in Division 2 on Tuesday at Cranwell.
