Mount Greylock, Lee Runners Post Successful Day
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Sam Harding finished eighth overall to lead the Lee boys cross country team to a pair of dual-meet wins in a five-team meet at Mount Greylock on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats edged Wahconah, 27-30, and beat Hoosac Valley, 20-37.
Harding -- and the rest of the 100-boy field, finished well back of Mount Greylock senior Tommy Kirby, who celebrated senior day by covering the 4-kilometer course in 13 minutes, 28 seconds, the sixth-fastest time ever in a high school meet at Mount Greylock.
Kirby led eight Mounties in the top 10 as Mount Greylock easily won its only dual of the day, 15-50, over Taconic.
The Mount Greylock girls were nearly as impressive, placing seven in the top 10, including -- like the boys -- the top three spots.
Margo Smith won the girls race in a time of 16:26, nearly a minute ahead of teammate Ellie Williams (17:18) in second.
Rounding out the scoring for the Mounties were Emma Polumbo (third overall), Bella Bote (seventh) and Niku Darafshi (eighth).
Wahconah's girls won two dual meets, besting Lee, 15-50, and Hoosac Valley, 22-36.
Gabby and Danni Orlando led Wahconah, finishing fifth and sixth, overall, in 17:54 and 17:55, respectively.
Hoosac Valley's Barthe was the first non-Mountie across the finish line, clocking a time of 17:48.
Taconic's girls topped Lee, 15-48, behind a 13th-place finish by Karli Manship (18:40).
Taconic's boys defeated Wahconah, 15-46, behind a strong pack of runnners who placed 11th through 15th overall. Mohammad Jadallah led the way with a tim eof 15:03.
