Mount Greylock Skiers Strong in Last Tuneup Before State Meet

WINDSOR, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock boys took three of the top four places in Saturday's Berkshire County League cross country ski race at Notchview Reservation.
 
Matthew Wiseman, Will Nolan and Jake Foehl placed second, third and fourth, respectively, to lead the Mounties in a battle with Northfield Mount Hermon.
 
NMH's Estevan Velez won the race in a time of 19 minutes, 32 seconds, edging Wiseman by just three seconds.
 
Northfield Mount Hermon also took fifth and sixth place.
 
Mount Greylock's Jake Kobrin and Tommy Kirby provided depth for the Mounties by coming in eighth and 10th, respectively, and Joey Gais, Thomas Schoorlemmer and Carter Stripp gave Mount Greylock three more top 20 finishers.
 
Hoosac Valley's boys were led by Jared Haley (21:04) in 11th place. Lenox's Matas Rudzinskas (21:51) and Wahconah's Sam Pyser (21:53) were 16th and 17th, respectively.
 
Taconic's Matthew Rabasco finished just outside the top 20 in 22nd place with a time of 20:31.
 
Saturday's girls race was won by Mount Greylock's Grace Smith in 22:25. She beat out Allison Lull of Mohawk (24:22) and led a Mounties contingent that placed four in the top seven.
 
Sophie Gerry was third, Niku Darafshi was fifth and Margo Smith was seventh for Mount Greylock.
 
Lenox's Alice Huth finished eighth (25:54). Wahconah's Meghan Moody was 12th (26:30), and Hoosac Valley's Jamie Barthe was 22nd (27:30). Taconic was led by Lauren Farry, who finished 36th in 30:36.
 
The best high school Nordic skiers in the commonwealth will be at Notchview on Wednesday for the MIAA Championships.
