Track Season Concludes at Meet of Champions

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Monument Mountain’s Oliver Berkowitz and Lily Haskins-Vaughan and Mount Greylock’s Judge Martin were the county’s highest finishers on Saturday at the conclusion of the Massachusetts Meet of Champions at Fitchburg State University.

 

Haskins-Vaughan cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to tie for fourth place in the high jump, an event won by Tantasqua’s Haley McCormack, the only jumper in the meet to clear 5-8.

 

Haskins-Vaughan’s county rival, Chase Hoey of Mount Greylock, went out at 5-2 and placed 12th at the All-State meet.

 

Berkowitz leapt 22 feet, 6 and one-half inches to place fourth in the long jump, where Antonio Wiafe of St. John’s was the winner with a mark of 23 feet, one-half inch.

 

The javelin was a popular venue for Berkshire County athletes on Saturday.

 

Martin had the best day of the county’s five throwers – boys and girls – in the event.

 

The Mount Greylock senior posted a mark of 178-0 to place fourth in the commonwealth. Walpole’s Matthew St. Cyr won the event with a throw of 191-10.
