County Teams Compete at Distance Carnival

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Lenox's Maxwell Adam took a couple of individual titles and ran a leg on one of the Millionaires' winning relays at the inaugural Berkshire County Distance Carnival on Saturday on Williams College's Lee Track.

 

Adam won the 3200 meters and the 2000-meter "eliimination run," in which trailing competitors were taken off the track as the race progressed.

 

Adam ran a leg on Lenox's distance medley relay, one of two Millionaire quartets to place first on Saturday. Lenox also won the mile relay.

 

In the field, Wahconah's Payton Shippee was the big winner in the boys meet.

 

Shippee took first in the javelin and discus and finished third in the shot put. His combined throws earned him the meet's "Iron Man" title, based on combining distances of the three throwing disciplines, with the shot put mark multiplied by three.

 

Hoosac Valley's Gabby Billetz was the Iron Man of the girls meet.

 

Billetz won the shot put and discus and placed second in the jav.

 

Saturday's unscored meet also featured a race rarely contested in local high school meets: the 2000-meter steeplechase.

 

Mount Greylock's Katherine Goss won the girls steeplecase. Dennis Love of Lenox won the boys.
