Mount Greylock Boys, Girls Earn Wins over Wahconah
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls and boys cross country teams remained unbeaten on Saturday with wins over Wahconah on their home course.
In the girls race, Katherine Swann took first overall with a time of 20 minutes, 33.57 seconds.
Her teammate, Jacqueline Wells, was next across the line in 21:19.47 to help the Mounties to an 18-45 win.
Wahconah's Haley Crosier broke up Mount Greylock's run at a sweep by placing third with a time of 21:33.09.
The boys race was a little tighter, but Mount Greylock prevailed, 22-38, behind another first-place performance by Oliver Swabey, who came home 18 seconds ahead of the field in 18:43.00.
Wahconah's Alexander Perenick was second with a time of 19:01.98 as the teams split the top four positions.
The Mounties' Charles McWeeny (19:03.85) placed third, and Wahconah's Lucas Wildrick (19:13.12) came in fourth.
Mount Greylock pulled away by taking the next three spots and five of next six. Parker Winters, Corban Miller and Ryan Keating rounded out the scoring for the hosts.
In the girls race, Grace Malone, Lily McDermott and Anne Miller scored for Mount Greylock, finishing fourth through sixth, respectively.
The teams begin the second half of the county's double round robin next Saturday when Mount Greylock goes to Monument Mountain and Wahconah visits Mount Everett.

Monument Mountain Sweeps Mount Everett
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Keegan Leach ran a time of 16:29.02 to lead the Monument Mountain boys to a sweep of Mount Everett in the Spartans' home opener.
Leach edged teammate Peter LaRochelle by 13 seconds as the pair finished 45 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Matthew Lowe (23:47.67) and Benjamin Vella (24:14.92) finished 10th and 11th overall, respectively, to led Mount Everett.
The Mount Everett girls did not field a full team, but Spartans sophomore Aria Grossman stayed sharp with a winning time of 23:08.87.
The top finisher for the Eagles was freshman Kathryn Cohen, who placed 17th out of a 23-runner field in a time of 30:18.02.
Mount Everett hosts Wahconah next Saturday while the Spartans host Mount Greylock in a rematch of their season-opener, which saw the Mounties' boys prevail on a tie-breaker.
