WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Gabby Alvarez served five straight points when her team needed them most in the fourth set, and the Mount Greylock volleyball team came from behind for a thrilling five-set win over Pittsfield on Wednesday night.

Alvarez finished with 21 assists on the night as the Mounties prevailed, 25-23, 25-27, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13.

Her service run in the fourth erased most of a 12-6 Pittsfield advantage and allowed Mount Greylock to take the set and force a deciding fifth.

That run was helped by the insertion of Maddie Machaffie as an offensive substitution, Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said.

“This was a total team effort and everyone on the sidelines and the court contributed,” Geyer said. “I am very proud of our senior leadership this match. Hats off to PHS as well for a great match tonight."

Adam Quinto had eight aces and 12 assists for the Generals. He also served against leads in the second and third sets to help PHS take both frames.

“Quinto and the entire PHS squad made comebacks in sets 2 and 3 backed by strong defense and smart hitting,” Geyer said.

Marie Butler had a match-high 16 kills. Maggie Burke had 14 assists, and Emma King had four blocks and six kills for Pittsfield.

Lucy Shepard had eight kills and a pair of aces, and Alyssa Phelps had three kills and three aces for the Mounties. Emma Hayward and Takeira Darrow recorded seven and five kills, respectively. Hayward also had 27 digs in the win.

Mount Greylock hosts Lee on Friday night, while Pittsfield hosts Monument Mountain.
